What are you thankful for? November is the month when we usually take time to sit back and reflect on all that God has done for us. Unfortunately spiritual reflections are often lost, or at least overshadowed, in the gratitude of our material and worldly blessings. There is nothing wrong with thanking God for our possessions, our job, our success, our families and so on. Certainly God gives us all things and all that we own are gifts from Him. However, we must never lose sight of His greatest gift to us.
Psalm 100 points out this gift so beautifully—we are His people. The Almighty God lovingly gathers us up and brings us into His gates. He fills us with songs of joy and assures us that we are under His watchful care. We are His sheep, and Jesus is the Good Shepherd who laid down His life for us (John 10, Galatians 2:20). There is no greater reason to give thanks than that—no matter what month it is! As we enter the hustle and bustle of the holiday seasons, may the grace and forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ fill your hearts and lives with joyful songs of gratitude and thanksgiving.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!
